So this tool is absolutely required, you can’t coax these lock rings off. It works as you would think, the thread on the specialized is usual R) hand thread , I checked this because of the inordinate amount of force I required to undo this ring made me question whether I was applying force in the right direction. Use a vice to hold the crank arm – gently – and lean on the lock ring with a large shifting spanner (wrench to Americans) to hold the tool. My lock ring seemed to be loctited (or something )on. But I got there . Good luck

Hi Cameron. Thanks for the review. Yes, those lock rings can be on there pretty tight so these tools are definitely needed for installation or removal of the power meter spider. I’m glad you got it figured out and please let us know if there is anything else we can do!
