This page contains our spider power meters for mountain bikes. These power meters measure power at the crank spider (hence the name). In most cases, you keep your existing crank arms and bolt the power meter spider to your cranks and then attach a chainring to the power meter. These power meters are some of our best. They measure power from both legs, most models are relatively affordable, they are accurate and reliable. In addition, you can find an MTB spider power meter to fit almost any crankset.

Brands
We carry spider power meters from power2max, Quarq, ROTOR and SRM. All these companies are highly respected power meter manufacturers. The power meter you select will largely depend on what crankset you have (more on that below).
Quick Product Comparison:
Price
Pricing on these power meters varies a bit. Most units fall in the $500-$700 range. However power2max’s NG power meters sell for closer to $900-$1,000. In addition, the SRM units are pricey and sell for $1,000 or more.
Models
power2max makes a range of spiders. They offer units for SRAM 3-bolt, Race Face, Praxis, Cannondale, ROTOR, Shimano and e*thirteen cranksets. So if you have any of those, a power2max can be a great fit.
ROTOR makes the INspider power meter which fits ROTOR’s KAPIC Carbon, KAPIC and R-Hawk cranks.
Quarq makes the popular XX1 Eagle DUB Power Meter which fits XX1 8-bolt cranks. It’s very uncommon to have these cranks on your bike already, so most customers that buy this power meter buy it along with new XX1 cranks.
SRM makes MTB power meter spiders for SRAM 3-bolt and Shimano cranks. They are very similar to the power2max units but cost a lot more. For this reason, most customers opt for the more affordable power2max.
Installation
With a spider-based power meter, you remove your crankset from the bike, replace your existing spider or chainring with the power meter, attach a chainring to the power meter and then reinstall the crankset. Installation isn’t as easy as say a left crank arm or pedal, but assuming you are not making a change to the bottom bracket, it can usually be done at home with some basic tools. Typical installation time is usually around 30 to 60 minutes.
Power Measurement
All these power meters measure power from both legs. They are also able to display left and right power balance data.
ANT+/Bluetooth SMART
These power meters are dual ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART compatible.
Batteries
The battery type varies across the different models. The power2max NGeco uses a CR2450 battery, while the Quarq uses a CR2032 battery. The power2max NG, ROTOR and SRM units all use a rechargeable battery.
Weight
Most of these power meters weigh between 130 and 170 grams. This is slightly heavier than a standard spider as the power meter spider contains electronics and a battery, but the added weight isn’t typically more than about 50-75 grams.
