The Shimano XTR CS-M9101 12-Speed Cassette is Shimano’s top-end MTB cassette, designed for racing and performance. Featuring steel, aluminum and titanium cogs, this XTR cassette provides an impressive 510% gear range. It uses a Beam Spider to bonds the cogs together which helps reduce weight as well as the inertia needed to turn over gears. Built around a Micro Spline freehub body, the XTR CS-M9101 cassette uses Shimano’s Hyperglide+ tooth profile. The provides smooth and reliable shifting. In addition, this cassette is lightweight at only 367 grams.

Considerations

We note that this Shimano XTR 12-speed cassette only works with MICRO SPLINE freehubs. In addition, it must be used with a Shimano HYPERGLIDE+ compatible 12-speed MTB chain. Lastly, this cassette has a 51-tooth large cog vs. some other cassettes (such as Garbaruk) that have a slightly larger 52-tooth cog.
