SRAM offers several different power meter upgrade crank arms for your SRAM AXS crankset. Specifically, they offer the Force AXS Power Meter for Force D2 cranksets, the Rival AXS Power Meter for Rival AXS cranks and the Apex AXS Power Meter for Apex AXS cranks.
With these power meters, you simply replace your left (non-drive) side crank arm with the power meter and boom – you now have power and cadence data on every ride. These power meters measure left leg power and double the value to approximate your total power – which is how all left side power meters work.
While SRAM intends Force D2 customers to buy the Force power meter, Rival customers to buy the Rival power meter and Apex customers to buy the Apex power meter, in reality all of these SRAM AXS Power Meter Upgrade crankarms will mechanically fit with each other. That is, you could use a Apex AXS Power Meter Crank Arm on a Force D2 crankset if you really wanted to. However, if you decided to mix and match, there are some differences you need to be aware of.
SRAM Power Meter Crank Arm Differences
Axle Length
The Apex only comes in Wide while the Rival and Force both come in Regular or Wide. Wide is 5 mm longer and designed for gravel bikes needing a little extra room for wider tires and chain stays. It’s imperative you order the correct version to match your crankset.
Weight
The Force is the lightest, but also most expensive option. This is followed by the Rival and then Apex.
- Force AXS Power Meter: 320 grams
- Rival AXS Power Meter: 360 grams
- Apex AXS Power Meter: 380 grams
(All measurements taken for Wide 172.5 mm.)
Cosmetics
As you can see in the images above, each crankset has its own unique graphics and colors. So if you choose to mix and match, your left side power meter crank arm won’t have the same look as the drive side of your crankset. A cosmetic difference only, but something to make note of.
Hello, if I have a new version SRAM Force normal road crankset, but I want to put that road crank on my gravel bike, can i buy the left-sided Force WIDE power meter? I can’t work out if the right crank arms are all the same, and it’s just the left arms and spindles that change?
Hi and thanks for your question.
The right sides are the same. To get the Wide, you’d just add the Wide left arm plus additional axle/bottom bracket spacers.
Thanks,
Hi!
Is the SRAM Force D1 crank arm compatible with Force D2 power meter?
Is it the same material, weight, etc.
Hi and thanks for the question,
Yes. The Force D1 an D2 units all have the same 8 bolt mounting interface for the Force D2 power meter spider. If looking to add the Force D2 left side power meter arm to a D1 crankset, this will also match as long as the D1 crankset is the Dub axle. Unlike the Force D2, the D1 came in both a Dub and GXP axle version. And yes. Same material and weight if comparing Dub to Dub cranks.
Thanks,
So are they all basically the same other than weight? Like do they all have the same accuracy and metrics recorded? I’m trying to figure out which one to buy it almost looks like it doesn’t matter
Hi and thanks for the question,
Yes. All these use the same axle-based power meter. The differences are in materials of the crankarms themselves. Do note that although the interface is the same SRAM does not deem mixing/matching their cranksets as compatible. ie. If you have a Force crankset, the Rival will fit, but isn’t deemed a compatible combination.
Thanks,
Is buying the crank arm upgrade the same meter as the whole crankset power meter? I have no need for a whole crabkset so I would prefer to just buy the arm but I didnt know if the arm was a lesser option or just less parts I dont need.
Hi and thanks for the question,
The axle-based power meter is the same through this lineup. The left crankarm is manufactured with this power meter axle and these differ in materials. If buying the complete spindle-based power meter crankset, you will be getting the same power meter as if just buying the left arm/axle upgrade.
Thanks,
