Can I install a Shimano R8100 power meter on a Shimano 8000 or 6800 crankset?

Yes, you can install a Shimano R8100 power meter on a Shimano 8000 or 6800 crankset as they both use the same interface – which is called Shimano Hollowtech II.

Please note, the color of the crank arms won’t be exactly the same (a cosmetic issue only), but they are very close so most customers are ok with this.

Please note, these power meters attach a sensor to the inside of the left crank arm. On some bikes, there is not enough room between the left crank arm and the chainstay for the sensor to clear the frame. Therefore, you should make sure you have at least 10 mm of clearance for Stages power meters. Also, please make sure that you don’t have a bottom bracket mounted rear brake (used on some aero and TT bikes). Please refer to the image below.

Hi, I think you have answered me above but just to double check. I have ultegra di2 r8000 chainset and wish to install a 4iiii ultegra r8100 left crank arm. Are they compatible and simply just swapping will work?
    Thanks

Hi and thanks for the question.

Although aesthetically different, as long as you have the chainstay clearance, this will be a mechanically fine fit.

      Thanks,

Thanks Dave. I have tested the gap between the crank arm and chainstay with a 10mm Allen key and it fits quite freely.

Hi there. Can I install a Shimano ultegra r8000 left side power meter on a Shimano Di2 12s Ultegra r8100 crankset?

    1. Dave Harris

Hi and thanks for the question.

Yes. Since the R8000 and R8100 both use Shimano’s Hollowtech II axle, this is mechanically compatible. Do note that besides the obvious aesthetic difference, there will be a very small stance with difference. Shimano 12 speed cranksets have a 2 mm wider Q Factor than the 11 speed. Adding an 11 speed arm to a 12 speed crank will leave your left foot 1 mm closer to the bike. If this is an issue, a small cleat adjustment usually solves.

      Thanks,

    Can I install a Shimano R8000 power meter on a 6700 crankset?

    1. Dave Harris

Hi and thanks for your question.

Yes. Since they both use the Shimano Hollowtech II axle system, this will mechanically match. There will be an aesthetic difference left/right, of course.

      Thanks,
