The majority of our Shimano rear derailleurs stand apart thanks to Di2 electronic shifting technology. Rather than using mechanical cables, Di2 sends an electronic signal to a small motor inside the derailleur. That motor moves the chain from cog to cog instantly and precisely. The result is consistent, accurate shifting every time — even under heavy load while climbing or sprinting. Shimano’s 12-speed Di2 derailleurs also use a semi-wireless design. The shifters communicate wirelessly to the derailleurs, eliminating cable clutter at the bars. A single battery powers the whole system.

Another key feature is Shimano’s Shadow RD low-profile design. This keeps the derailleur more inboard than conventional designs. As a result, it’s more durable and less prone to damage in a crash. On GRX gravel derailleurs, Shimano adds Shadow RD+ technology. This includes a clutch stabilizer that increases resistance in the pulley cage. It prevents chain slack on rough terrain, reducing chain slap. Additionally, all Di2 derailleurs connect to Shimano’s E-TUBE PROJECT app. From there, riders can customize shift speed, button assignments, and synchronized shifting modes.

Our road lineup covers three groupset tiers. The DURA-ACE RD-R9250 is Shimano’s flagship Di2 rear derailleur with the fastest and most precise shifting in the lineup. The Ultegra RD-R8150 Di2 offers a carbon derailleur cage and nearly identical performance at a lower price. The 105 RD-R7150 Di2 delivers excellent electronic shifting at an accessible price point.
