I can’t get my brand new Stages power meter to show power. What should I do?

There are a few easy things you can try that usually fix this issue.

For left crank arm power meters

Please confirm that the positive battery contact is not bent downwards from the correct position, which would prevent it from contacting the positive terminal of the battery. If needed, please use your fingernail to bend it back to its original position as shown in the photo below:

Open battery compartment on Stages left side power meter

If the positive terminal is in place, we can try a hard reset of the meter to see if we can get it to pair back up. Using the rounded edge of the battery, bridge to the positive and negative terminals for around 20 seconds. This will short circuit the board and should wake up the meter. Below is an example of the hard reset being performed.

Once you have performed the hard reset, please install a brand new battery and see if you are able to pair with your head unit or smartphone via the StagesPower app.

    THAT’S AWESOME!

I have been struggling with an intermittent problem with getting my Stages SB20 bike power meters to connect and or having frequent dropouts, and nowhere in the documentation or from support did I hear anything about checking the contact tabs on the power meters.

Because I am often having to replace the batteries, over time I must have bent the tab down and did not notice until I read your article and got the magnifying glass and high-powered flashlight so I could see them in the dimly lit workout room.

Thank You, THANK YOU! for posting this, I have been very frustrated with the Stages bike (for various reasons) but this not connecting power meter thing was going to be the last straw before hauling this heap to the scrap yard (actually before that I probably would’ve tried one more time with Stages support, but it is a real crap shoot if they will ever get back in a reasonable amount of time).
Hopefully this will mitigate the connection issues I have been having.
    Thanks again for the remedy!

      Thanks!
