Affordable
Most complete crankset-based MTB power meters cost over $1,000. By comparison, the ZWATT yding is only $675, which makes it very affordable in comparison.

An affordable, accurate, lightweight power meter for your MTB!
With years of experience building power meters, Team ZWATT has now taken their spindle-based power meter to the dirt! Sold as an entire crankset (power meter spindle, crankarms and chainring), the Team ZWATT yding Carbon MTB Power Meter is affordable, lightweight, loaded with the latest in technology and yes, is of course accurate too!
Starting with accuracy, the ZWATT yding measures +/- 1.5%, on par with most other power meters. But it’s more than that. Some MTB power meters are prone to ‘power spikes’. This is when bumps or rocks on the trail cause a jolt to be read by the strain gauges. However not with the yding! Using a unique strain gauge design, protected measurement circuits and new software algorithms, the yding is not phased by rough terrain. This means your power data is always clean!
The power meter is also super lightweight. Featuring a carbon crankset manufactured by Samox (major OEM that also supplies to Specialized), the yding crankset (excluding chainring) weighs a mere 450 grams, making it one of the lightest power meter cranksets available. The carbon layup also ensures it’s ultra-stiff and efficiently transfers power through the drivetrain.
When it comes to technology, the yding features a rechargeable battery with 250 hours of battery life, dual ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART compatibility and it measures power, cadence, torque effectiveness and pedal smoothness.
Last but not least…it’s also highly affordable. Most complete crankset-based MTB power meters cost over $1,000. By comparison, the ZWATT yding is only $675!

A nice carbon crank PM and a great value. My 170mm set weighs 490gm.
There was only a very cursory user’s manual and no installation instructions included. User information can be found on the Team Zwatt website, but up to now no installation instructions. There is no provision for setting axial preload included with the crank unlike some brands of cranks with 30mm spindles that have threaded collars for this purpose. I could fit one 0.5mm shim on the spindle with my BB92. Other BBs will play differently. Other than that, attach the ring with ~7Nm, grease and torque the crank bolt to 40-45 Nm. I used pedal washers, though none are supplied.
Downloading the app and configuring the PM with it was straightforward, as was pairing the PM with my Garmins. Power output compares well with my two-sided power pedals and smart trainer.
The end of the crank arm around the pedal threads is pretty big and I haven’t yet found a crank boot that will fit it. None of the RaceFace boots fit.

Thank you for the review on your ZWATT yding. We’re excited to be able to offer this new power meter – like you said, a pretty nice value for a full carbon MTB crankset!

Great crankset so far, haven’t had any issues with it. Lightweight, delivers power information, and doesn’t really complain. Did miss the memo about the spindle/bottom bracket size – 30mm, which is pretty standard but still required me to swap out my old XT BB.
All in all though I’m loving it and have no complaints. Will definitely update the review in the future if anything notable happens.
