The Stages Shimano Ultegra R8000 Dual-Sided Crankset features Stages proven performance and dependability on a Shimano Ultegra R8000 crank. This unit is accurate to within 1.5% and like all Stages power meters, features dual ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART compatibility and runs off of easy to replace CR2032 batteries. In addition, the Stages R8000 Dual-Sided Power Meter is extremely lightweight, adding only 35 grams to the crankset.

However the key feature on this power meter is its ability to measure left/right power. With a power sensor on both crank arms, the power meter can measure the force generated by each leg individually and transmit this data in real-time to your bicycle computer. This left/right power measurement is all new to Stages power meters and further makes the Stages R8000 Power Meter a valuable training tool!

Compatibility:

This power meter is compatible with 2×11 road drivetrains and 24 mm Shimano bottom brackets. Most customers that buy it already have a Shimano R8000 crankset on their bike and therefore, it’s an easy swap. However, it can be used on any road bike as long as its 2×11 with a 24 mm bottom bracket. See Compatibility tab for more information.

Power Measurement:

This Stages power meter has a power sensor on both crank arms and measures power from both legs. It is also able to measure your left vs. right leg power.

This is a great option for customers with a Shimano R8000 drivetrain that want to keep an OEM R8000 crankset on their bike but add power. We also like that fact that this crankset measures power from both legs and as well as provides left vs. right leg power.

Other Versions to Consider

Left Side R8000: We also sell the Stages Shimano Ultegra R8000 Power Meter which is a left side crank arm only. It is more affordable, however it only measures left leg power.

Compatibility

Bottom Bracket: This power meter is compatible with 2x11 road drivetrains and 24 mm Shimano bottom brackets. Most customers that buy it already have a Shimano R8000 crankset on their bike and therefore, it's an easy swap. However, it can be used on any road bike as long as its 2x11 with a 24 mm bottom bracket.

Check Frame Clearance: Crank-arm based power meters like this one attach a sensor on the inside of the left crank arm. On some bikes, there is not enough room between the left crank arm and the chainstay for the sensor to clear the frame. Therefore, you should make sure you have at least 10 mm of clearance between the left crank arm and the chainstay - and that you don't have a bottom bracket mounted rear brake (used on some aero and TT bikes). The important area to measure is right in the middle of the crank arm. Please refer to the image below.

If you find that you have around 7-9 mm of clearance, what many people will do is simply install a 1 or 2 mm bottom bracket spacer (between the left crank arm and the frame), which will give them the clearance they need.

  • Your crank arm length should be printed or stamped on the inside of the left crank arm, usually near the pedal end.

    The purchase process was simple, PowerMeter City had the spec I needed in stock and the price was right. Shipped with car, arrived on time and was 100% pristine condition as one would expect.
    Super Simple installation. Taking my time and it took less than an hour. I am by any means a Bike Mechanic, I’m comfortable with tools and disassembly but this is my precious bike – nothing to worry about, easier than installing a new chain IMO.
    I didn’t need assistance, but there were multitude of ways to reach out for assistance should you need it. buy with confidence.

    The Power meter does read a touch high compared to my Kicker, I knew this was likely. The cranks connect easily, I get Balance and Efficiency on my Garmin device which was nice addition. It works as designed.

    Ordered on a Friday and got it on Monday. Impressed with that. Also got the L50 Dash. I am an experienced mechanic so crank install was a breeze. 11 speed crank works flawlessly with my 7800 10-speed drivetrain. Setting up the dash was a bit tedious but only because I have been an old-school analog computer user. Got everything dialed in and so far so good. Using mostly indoors with Inside Ride rollers and the combination of power meter and active rollers has transformed my indoor riding.

    Decided on the L/R Stages Gen 3 power meter due too an old injury on the Left leg. Bottom line, the unit works as advertised. The efforts I have been putting in feel very similar to the power output from my indoor trainer. I have rode 10 hours now on the road with the Stages pwoermeter. As for Power Meter City, they delivered fast and in good shape. Took the Stages Unit to my local bike shop and had it installed.     I have to say that as many questions that I asked Power Meter City you would think they would say stop emailing us and buy something. Not the case here, they were professional and very knowledgeable. The most impressive thing to me was that they did not push the most expensive options on me.     I’ve waited a few months before reviewing this product to make sure it’s reliable, accurate and durable. I’m happy to report that apart from the occasional 1 to 2 second drop in communication to my Garmin Fenix 5X it’s been all of these.

    I recommend the L/R meter for indoor training. I found that on the road I had a 50/50 balance between left and right, but that indoors I tended to have a 55/45 balance which over time I’ve managed to get close to an even balance thanks to the immediate feedback it gives me.

    In addition to being a great product I really enjoyed the customer service. I train in the Philippines near the sea under high humidity. Because of this I asked for some additional battery seals, which they provided free of charge. Also, although my shipment was delayed due to buying on Black Friday, they kept me up to date on shipment dates, and sent it priority shipment at no extra charge. Now that’s looking after your customers!

    This is my second Stages Shimano Ultegra R8000 Dual-Sided Crankset from Power Meter City. I have one more bike remaining that needs a power meter, which will probably be the DuraAce L/R crankset from Stages. I can now return to using my Speedplay pedals after two years of using power meter pedals. And these power meter cranksets work just as well as the pedals did. Easy to install and pair and the connection is solid.

    I bought this for rehabilitation purposes as I felt I was not using my injured left leg after a knee operation. 12 months in and 3000km later it has been perfect. Will probably get the DA one for my other bike as well as it provides all data required. My Garmin gives me immediate & accurate left / right Watts with each pedal stroke and I have consciously gone from 60/40 to a close 50/50 output helping me with my “lazy “ leg. Service was good and delivery to Thailand prompt.
