If you want to ride smarter and be safer, the Garmin Varia RTL515 Radar Tail Light has your back! Mounted neatly on the seatpost, the Varia RTL515 performs double duty, acting as a taillight and as a sensor for vehicles approaching from behind.
The bright tail light offers daylight visibility up to a mile away. In addition, it is visible within a 220-degree range, so drivers can see you well before the radar sees the vehicle. The Varia RTL515 also provides visual and audible alerts to warn of vehicles approaching from behind up to 153 yards (140 meters) away.
Compatibility
This radar works seamlessly with your Edge bike computer or compatible smartphone as well as select Garmin wearables or the optional radar display unit.

Sixteen months ago, in broad daylight, a riding buddy was hit from behind and launched into a ditch. He survived, but is scarred and scared. So am I – especially during solo rides. I was constantly looking over my left shoulder to watch for encroaching traffic.
When I heard that Garmin had created a rear tail light and radar in one unit, I was intrigued. I read a few reviews, and my surviving buddy obtained one – covered by insurance.
What an amazing device!! Riding behind him, I knew when vehicles were approaching by watching the rear light flashing sequence.
I bought my own through Power Meter City. Even though I’m out of country, the device arrived in less than two weeks – amazing service!
What a game changer!! On solo rides I feel amazingly confident, knowing if or when traffic is behind me, how close, and how many vehicles. In a group ride, my buddies love it, as they can watch the flashing light for signs of traffic while I call out traffic to those in front – making for a safer ride. That’s what it’s all about – living to ride another day. Great product, fair price point, awesome delivery.
