Favero Assioma DUO Power Meter Pedals

Favero introduced their first power meter, the bePRO, in 2015. It was a hit among cyclists of all levels due to its accuracy, reliability and low price point. Favero is at it again, this time with the Favero Assioma DUO Power Meter Pedals. Like the previous version, the Favero Assioma power meter pedals are a dual-sided power meter with a power sensor located on each pedal. This means the power meter can show both left and right power, in addition to total power and cadence.

However, Favero made several big changes with the Assioma. To begin with, it now installs like a normal pedal. No special tools or set-up steps needed. Just use the supplied Allen key and screw them on. In addition, the Favero Assioma pedals now have both ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART. The power meter kept its rechargeable battery, but now has 50 hours of battery life.

Accuracy was also improved. The Assioma uses Favero’s IAV Power Technology. IAV takes into account the precise pedaling speed within each pedal stroke, resulting in accuracy of +/- 1.0%.

Favero Assioma DUO Highlights

Dual-Sided Power

With a power sensor on each pedal, the Assioma can measure true left and right power. While some power meters provide an estimated left/right power figure, only a few can provide true left/right data.

Easy to Install & Transfer

Installing a power meter doesn’t get any easier. Grab the Allen key, screw on the pedals and you’re ready to go. This means you can also move them from bike to bike in seconds!

ANT+ & Bluetooth SMART

With both ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART, the pedals will work with your favorite cycling computer, GPS watch, smart phone or tablet. The choice is yours!

Accurate with IAV Power

The Assioma uses Favero’s IAV Power Technology. IAV results in accuracy of +/- 1.0%. It also allows the Assioma pedals to be used with oval chainrings without any impact to the accuracy of your data!

IAV Cycling Dynamics

Favero’s built-in gyroscope also allows you to measure cycling dynamics data such as IAV Power Phase and IAV Rider Position. With these advanced metrics, you can become a faster, stronger rider!

Light

Using cutting-edge materials, the weight of each pedal is only 149.5 grams. This makes it the lightest power meter pedal available.

Rechargeable

The Favero Assioma uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which offers a 50-hour life. When the battery gets low, simply plug them in using the included charger, and you’re good to go again.

User Friendly App

The Assioma app allows you to update firmware, perform zero-offsets, check battery levels and more. Also, the “Compatibility with other apps” function ensures it works with other apps and training software.

Proved and Guaranteed

Each Assioma undergoes strict control tests (load, shock, fatigue, wear, water resistance, etc.) in order to ensure performance. It also comes with a full two-year warranty.

Favero IAV Power TechnologyFavero Assioma IAV Power Graph

The Assioma uses Favero’s IAV (Instantaneous Angular Velocity) Power. Using special software and a built-in three-axis gyroscope, IAV takes into account the precise pedaling speed within each pedal stroke. This results in the Favero Assioma DUO having accuracy of +/- 1.0%. In addition, IAV allows you to use the Assioma pedals with oval chainrings without any impact to the accuracy of your data!

Favero IAV Cycling DynamicsFavero Assioma IAV Cycling Dynamics

Favero’s gyroscope also allows you to measure cycling dynamics data. IAV Power Phase displays the portion of your pedaling stroke in which torque is produced. In addition, your Power Phase Peak, in which maximum torque is produced, is also indicated. IAV Rider Position displays the portion of time you are in a seated vs. standing position. This allows you to analyze how a specific position can influence your performance. This data works with most Garmin bike computers including the Edge 1030, 830, 820, 530 and 520 Plus.

Now with Auto-Zero!

The pedals now have auto-zero. With this feature, the power meter will perform an automatic zero-offset (calibration) every time you ride, which helps ensure the power meter stays accurate!

Updated Spring Tension

Favero changed the spring in order to have a wider release torque tension and these pedals come with the new spring. The new spring’s release torque tension has been lowered from 11Nm to 8Nm. Therefore, the pedals are now easier to clip in and out of.

Favero Assioma DUO Pedal Cleats

The Favero Assioma DUO Power Meter Pedals come supplied with red, 6-degree float cleats. You also have the option to purchase black, 0-degree (fixed) float cleats.

Compatibility

Bike: The Favero Assioma power meter pedal is compatible with any road or indoor bike.

Cleats: The power meter uses a LOOK Keo style 3-bolt road cleat. One set (red 6-degree float) comes supplied with the power meter.

We also offer LOOK Keo Road Cleats as well as LOOK Keo Grip Road Cleats which may be used with the power meter. The Grip version costs slightly more, but includes a non-slip surface, which makes walking easier and safer. Please note, the Grip version isn’t officially recommended by Favero and some customers report they change the feel of the pedals slightly. Please take this into account if you opt for the Grip version of the cleats.

I contacted Power Meter City several months ago to find out what options I had for my 2013 Specialized Tarmac. They were quick with a friendly reply outlining my options. After that, I took several months to research the options and save a bit more money, and I ultimately decided on the Assioma Duo pedals. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Not only were they incredibly easy to install and set up, but they were shipped very fast and arrived in enough time to use them for a crazy ride I had planned just a few days after ordering AND I had enough time to take them for a few test rides. Within a half hour of unboxing, I had power numbers appearing on my Garmin for the first time ever. The aforementioned crazy ride was a 200-miler and the pedals performed flawlessly for all 13 hours of it. Even better still, the stack height on these was within 1mm of my old (Look Keo) pedals, so I didn’t need to make a single adjustment to my cleats or saddle. My Keo cleats actually fit a hair more snug in the Assiomas, which I like. I would not hesitate to use PMC again for any of my power meter needs, and I look forward to many happy years ahead with my Assiomas. Thanks!

Purchase to these pedals a couple of weeks ago and got them in the mail quite quickly. They were extraordinarily easy to set up.

And mounted them on the bike just like you mount regular pedals it comes with the tools that you need. You download the app onto your phone so that you can see them. It hooks up quickly to a Garmin computer I run a Garmin Edge 820. I had zero issues of dealing with it and hooking it up to my computer and riding with them they were just perfect. It’s nice to get all the information about the balance between my left and right legs and how I pedal around in circles. There’s so much good information from these puddles I can’t even describe it here.

I’ve put about 250 MI, about 15 hours? On them and the batteries are barely down at all so I have a feeling the batteries are going to last really long and the charging system is quick and easy to connect and there’s no connector to wear out it’s a magnet so it’s brilliant.

Nothing but good things to say about them, they’re just as good if not better than everybody else is including garmin’s petals and they’re cheaper.

    • Power Meter City

Very well said! These pedals rock! Thanks for taking the time to leave an awesome review Cassandra. We hope you will continue to enjoy your new DUO’s and let us know if there is anything else we can do to help! Ride safe!

  3. R Jensen (verified owner)

Everything good that other reviewers has said is true. The pedals took perhaps 2-3 minutes to install and another 2 minutes to pair with my Garmin. The app is excellent and easy to use. While I have not done precise statistical comparisons, the power readings appear to be very accurate, just what I would expect from the Quarq on my other road bike. A great product!

    • Power Meter City

Thanks for this kind review R! We hope you will continue to enjoy our new DUO’s and good luck on your future rides! Let us know if there is anything else we can do! Ride safe!

  4. Russ Cole (verified owner)

First, the purchase experience with Power Meter City was even more seamless and efficient than indicated in previous reviews by other buyers. Delivered in like three days!! And the pedals are just fantastic. I bought them to go on my new high end road bike and could not be happier. The product description is spot on to what I received. And the product is excellent quality. I chose PM pedals because I want to switch them between bikes. The Assiamo Duo’s won out in several categories: price point, weight (the lightest PM pedals at 145 gm each!), accuracy of data, ease of assembly and changing bikes, and endorsements from some pro riders I follow. I am an older (60+ y. o.) road cycling enthusiast so I am doing this for my health and a little ego boost when I can break a PR on Strava or match watts with some of the younger women and men riders on some of the big ascents here in the mountains. And I wanted the data also as a tool for recuperating from a recent foot surgery and later for rehab after an upcoming hip replacement. Seeing the L/R power split is extremely informative and the fact that they automatically re-calibrate after each ride gives even more confidence in the data. I had read that Favero had reduced the tension on the cleat Springs for this year’s production cycle. I am glad of that as my unclipping leg is my weak side. I still had to set the tension at the lowest setting, but clipping in and out has been fine. I am transitioning from mtb SDL pedals which were a breeze to clip in and out on the highest tension. I find these not quite as easy, but still more than manageable and understand this is normal when making such a switch. Nonetheless, even at the lowest setting, the Assioma Duos feel extremely secure on both the challenging ascents and the screaming descents. Much more secure than the mtb style pedal. And they get tons of compliments from other riders on the aesthetics with the blinking light transponder unit on the pedal axle. 5 STARS all around!

    • Power Meter City

Agreed! These pedals are really amazing! Thank you for this amazing review Russ! We hope you will continue to enjoy your new pedals and if there is anything else we can do, please let us know! Ride safe!

  5. Natalie Mekler (verified owner)

Tried them last week both indoors and outdoors. Compared then against my quarq and kickr. Great power meters with great extra data available! (Torque effectiveness and pedal smoothness my favorites). Highly recommended!

    • Power Meter City

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review on your new pedals Natalie. We hope you will continue to enjoy them and of course, if there is anything else we can help you with please let us know! Ride safe!

  6. Trevor Irons (verified owner)

My second pair of Dou’s! I converted my first pair to SPD pedals using the ‘Xpedo hack’ (Google it if interested) and they worked so well I wanted to replace my older SRM with these. I was not expecting that. I’m using this pair stock.

The pedaling dynamics and L/R balance are great to have. I have used them to fine tune positioning. Power data seem consistent with the SRM. I’ve had no issues with ANT+ dropping out. They have worked flawlessly with my Garmin 830 head unit. Coming from and old SRM I like the rechargeable batteries, and the pedals function well once you adjust the very low factory release setting. Cleats might not be great for walking; why are you walking in your bike shoes? Cleats work fine with Keo pedals too. Stack height and stance width are pretty standard unlike some other power meter pedals.

Although ‘off label’, my other pair are holding up to the abuses of MTBing without issue, solid product! FYI converting to SPD voids your warranty.

Power Meter City had a good price, free shipping, no customs, and shipped promptly.

    • Power Meter City

Thank you for this Trevor! Good job and congrats on your second DUO’s – looks like you are enjoying them, we hope you will have a safe ride always, and please if there is anything else we can help you with, let us know! Cheers!

Easy installation and accurate readings. Be sure to follow the instructions for setup and it will be a breeze. I’ve installed power meter cranks before and this is certainly easier and appears to have the same accurate readings including left/right balance.

    • Power Meter City

Thanks for this Aaron. We hope you will continue to enjoy your new pedals. Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!

  10. Clay Northgraves (verified owner)

I’ve had these pedals for several weeks now and they’re awesome! Extremely easy to install, setup and move to a different bike. And, the integration with my Garmin Edge 130 was almost too easy.
Lastly, I recommend you calibrate prior to each ride – which literally takes 30 seconds.

    • Power Meter City

Yay! Looks like you are enjoying your new pedals Clay. Thanks for this awesome review. We hope you continue to enjoy them and please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
