We have several great options for Shimano GRX power meters. In general, you have three options for a GRX power meter: (1) If you already have a GRX crankset on your bike, you can attach a left side power meter crank arm to your crankset; (2) You can purchase a new Shimano GRX crankset that has power sensors attached; or (3) You can buy a power2max crankset that serves as a direct GRX replacement. The power2max power meters are some of our best-performing versions and we highly recommend them. Below, we will summarize these options so you can decide what’s best for you!
Additional Shimano GRX Power Meters Info:
4iiii or Stages Left Crank Arm Power Meter
Both 4iiii and Stages make a Shimano GRX RX810 power meter crank arm which is compatible with all Shimano GRX cranksets including GRX RX600. With this type of power meter, you swap out your current left crank arm for the new power-equipped version. These power meters are affordable and easy to install. The trade-off is they only measure left leg power.
Before purchasing, you should confirm compatibly with your frame. On some bikes, there is not enough room between the left crank arm and the chainstay for the sensor to clear the frame. Therefore, you should make sure you have at least 10 mm of clearance for Stages and 4iiii PRECISION 2 power meters and 8 mm of clearance for 4iiii PRECISION 3 power meters. Please refer to the image below.
Pros: Affordable, easy to install, don’t have to change crankset
Cons: Measures left leg power only
4iiii Right Crank Arm Power Meter
4iiii also makes a right side version of their Shimano GRX RX810 power meter. This is a great option if you cannot fit a left side power meter on your bike due to clearance issues with the chainstay. In addition, some customers buy this if they already have a 4iiii GRX left side crank arm power meter and they want to upgrade to a dual-sided crankset. With power sensors on both the left and right crank arms, you can measure power from both legs.
Pros: Affordable, easy to install, don’t have to change crankset
Cons: Measures right leg power only
power2max Crankset Power Meter
power2max offers a few different GRX power meter cranksets depending on what chainrings you would like to use. They have versions that fit Shimano GRX 1x and 2xchainrings, as well as versions that come with power2max Gravel 1x or 2x chainrings. You have the option of 24 mm or 30 mm spindles as well as aluminum or carbon crank arms. These power2max GRX power meters measure power from both legs, are accurate and very reliable. We use them on our own bikes and highly recommend them.
Pros: Moderately priced, VERY reliable, measures both legs
Cons: Have to change out your crankset
